POWER CENTRE CLIENT

The following are the power centre client components.
         1) Power Center Designer.
         2) Work flow manager.
         3) Work flow monitor.
         4) Repository Manager.

A client is a GUI where we can deal with Meta data.

Power Center Designer:
  • A designer is a GUI based client component which allows you to design mappings.
  • A mapping is a structural representation of data flow.
  • A mapping is made up of following types of Meta data.
          a) Source Metadata
          b) Target Metadata
          c) Transformation rule.
  • As a developer we have only rights to access client.
The following types of metadata are stored in the repository                                           
1) Source definition
2) Target definition
3) Transformation rule
4) Mappings
5) Sessions
6) Work flows
7) Source Target database connection info.
8) User security info.
9) Session log files.
10) Work flow & session status info.

Workflow Manager -

It is a GUI based client component using which the following tasks can be created
            1) Create a session for each mapping
            2) Create workflow to start the other tasks like session

Session:
   
             It is a task related to extraction, transformation & loading.

Work flow -

            It’s a task related to executing other tasks session, email, command etc.

Work flow Monitor -

  • It is a GUI based client component which allows you to display the work flow and  
         Session status information.
  • It allows you to fetch the session log file created by integration services from repository.
Repository Manager -

 It is a GUI based administrative client component which allows you to perform the following activities.

1) Can create users, user groups & can assign permissions and privileges (user administration).

2) Can organize the metadata by creating folders.

The metadata can be organized by creating folders.
